Today, in a first for the Southern Hemisphere, our embryologists introduce our latest piece of expert laboratory equipment – the TAKANOME!
Roughly one third of the causes of infertility are due to female factors, one third are due to male factors and one third are due to combined male and female factors or unexplained. Intracytoplasmic sperm injection, or ICSI for short, is a highly effective treatment for male factor infertility problems.
ICSI involves the use of specialised micromanipulation equipment and an inverted microscope that enables our embryologists to select and pick up an individual sperm in a specially designed ICSI needle and carefully inject the sperm into the inner part (cytoplasm) of the egg.
It is of utmost importance that the injection is performed with absolute precision. TAKANOME, which translates to ‘hawk eye’ in Japanese, uses the latest technology to allow for precise and safe injection of sperm into eggs.
Our TAKANOME equipment is paired with a new advanced microscope with high-resolution optics and, alike all our ICSI equipment at Westmead Fertility Centre, is positioned on a pneumatic table that prevents even the smallest vibration, further optimising the precision of the ICSI technique.
