Zika virus (ZIKV) is a mosquito-borne flavivirus transmitted primarily by Aedes aegypti mosquitoes.
Many countires in the Americas have reported the recent introduction of ZIKV infection with on-going local transmission (but not the continental United States or Canada).
Recent ZIKV transmission has also been reported in Samoa and Tonga.
Due to the concerns about the possibility of severe outcomes for unborn babies, women who are pregnant or planning to become pregnant should consider postponing their travel to areas with active outbreaks of Zika.
